The IRS has announced their annual e-file scheduled production shutdown, applicable to both individual and business tax returns. Beginning at 11:59 a.m. ET on Friday, Dec. 26, 2025, Modernized e-File (MeF) system will no longer accept e-file submissions, later than usual compared to last year’s date of November 30th. Other service requests, such as retrieving acknowledgments, will remain active until the final cutoff time, at 11:59 p.m. the same day. This creates a twelve-hour window when transmitters will no longer be able to submit new filings, however they may receive acknowledgements. Therefore, no e-file submissions will be accepted after 11:59 a.m. (noon) ET, December 26, 2025, but we can receive acknowledgements until 11:59 p.m. (midnight) ET, December 26, 2025.

Note: The IRS announced in it’s October 23, 2025 quick alert 1040 MeF Production Shutdown Update: The Individual tax returns production shutdown has been extended this year. It will now take place in December to align with the Business tax returns shutdown”
