Course Description

There are a number of issues that can emerge when dealing with downloaded text data in Excel. And while there are many tools available to help with this process, they are not always easy to locate and use properly. This course helps clarify how these tools should be used, and addresses common problems and solutions related to handling downloaded data in a text format. The course covers converting numbers formatted as text to numbers usable by Excel functions, concatenation, text to columns, and specific Excel text functions to manipulate and analyze data.

This course provides step-by-step instruction; however, it does not provide any exercise files.

Learning Objectives

Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Recognize the methods used to convert numbers formatted as text to numeric values and dates formatted as text to date values recognized by Excel
  • Recognize the function of Concatenate and how to concatenate text in Excel
  • Identify text functions that capture or count characters in a text string
  • Identify text functions that will format, evaluate, and clean up text in Excel
