Course Description

Donald & Melania Trump’s tax returns for 2015 through 2020 were released to the public by the House Committee on Ways & Means as part of a report on the IRS Mandatory Examination program. A Joint Committee on Taxation report on the audits and Ways & Means Committee report on the mandatory examination program provide some insightful information for tax practitioners (or just inquiring minds). This course looks at the mandatory examination program, where the committees believe it should be improved, helpful information for preparers, and has just a touch of conspiracy theory to keep it interesting.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Learn the source of the Presidential Mandatory Examination Program
  • Understand how the Program functioned during the Trump administration
  • Learn the IRS examination issues on the Trump tax returns and how to protect your clients on the same issues
  • Review responsibility for tax preparation: charitable contributions, NOL’s, passive activities, basis and unreimbursed expenses
