A Small City with a Funky Attitude

Asheville offers visitors the duality of a burgeoning cultural scene and a respite from the congestion found in larger metropolitan areas. Downtown you'll find a mix of locally owned boutiques, galleries, live music venues, and farm-to-table restaurants. You'll also want to check out the Downtown Asheville Historic District, the centerpiece of which is the Basilica of St. Lawrence, a beautiful example of Catalan-style architecture from the early twentieth century. Outside of town, you'll find plenty to do in the lush Blue Ridge Mountain countryside. Hiking, biking, and sightseeing are popular on the region's extensive trail system, featuring views of hundreds of waterfalls cascading down mountainsides. The incredible Biltmore Estate, located just outside of town, is also a must-see. The former home of George Vanderbilt proudly displays 8,000 acres of exquisitely manicured gardens, with tours, dining, and shopping on-site.
