East of the Black Hills and the Gateway to Mount Rushmore National Park

Sitting just east of the Black Hills, Rapid City, SD serves as the gateway to Mount Rushmore National Memorial. Downtown Rapid City mixes the feel of an Old West town with a modern small city. You'll find galleries and museums celebrating the region's history alongside fashionable boutiques and an array of restaurants. Outside of town, the fun really starts. You're within a one-hour drive of six national parks and monuments, and the surrounding area offers bountiful opportunities for sightseeing and outdoor-related activities. If you're looking for a little piece of the Old West, the historic town of Deadwood is a 45-minute drive, still paying homage to its roots as a rough and tumble outpost for cowboys with live entertainment and gaming venues.
