For years beginning in 2001, Congress made sweeping changes to the Internal Revenue Code regarding estate, gift, and generation-skipping taxation. The year 2010 is a climactic year, with no estate tax, but with everyone expecting legislation reinstating the tax in some fashion. The purpose of this course is to understand the impact of the 2001 legislation and changes going forward in 2010 and beyond.
Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Apply gift planning techniques.
- Apply estate planning techniques.
- Identify and incorporate generation-skipping strategies.
- Identify issues involved in step-up in basis and be able to apply them in estate planning.
- Identify recent case court rulings and apply them to estate planning.
- Identify and apply new legislation that affects estate planning in 2010 and beyond.
