Challenges for the CFO/Controller in 2012—The Changing Role


The leadership role of the CFO/controller has never been more important. As the economy continues to struggle, governance and effective management controls are critical to the CFO/controller.

This course provides guidance for CFOs/controllers in dealing with the financial and accounting issues of volatile markets in the current global economy. Useful tools will be explored as they relate to major risks an organization faces and how CFOs/controllers can effectively use those tools in their strategic and operational roles. Topics include organization governance, accounting and legislative process control risks, managing growth and right-sizing a firm, and managing debt and equity balance.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Develop an effective governance model for their organization to include board development and communication.
  • Create an effective leadership development program for financial professionals.
  • Apply recent accounting issues, including IFRS, ASC, fair value, derivatives, Dodd-Frank bill, and health care reform, to situations in their firm.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of human resources programs within an organization to include personnel evaluations, pay, and process controls in hiring.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of ethics programs and the tone at the top relative to risk management.
  • Make good decisions regarding the debt and equity mix in their firm.
  • Manage growth and right-size an organization in challenging times.
