Financial & Accounting Decision Making in a Slowly Recovering Economy (New)

The recession is now well over a year old. The financial markets have been in turmoil but are showing some signs of renewal. The return to stable ground, however, will be a slow and fluctuating process. Those that plan for the impact of the recession and financial market instability will survive intact and be ready for the eventual solid upturn. The skills needed to meet these daunting times are seldom taught but are so critical to survival and eventual success. The methodology to survive and even thrive in these times will be the subject of course that uses a case study methodology.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Determine whether or not a firm is in danger of bankruptcy.
  • Determine critical vulnerabilities with a firm's suppliers, banks, investors, employees, and customers.
  • Review and understand the financial capacity of the firm as a critical means of determining future vulnerabilities.
  • Review the external funds needed model for understanding future funding needs.
  • Deal with uncertain economic issues at the macro level which have significant operational impacts on the company.
  • Determine strategies to prevent the company’s strategic plan from being compromised by short term funding problems.
  • Identify critical success factors for survival for a company and means of reducing those risks.
