This course will convey critical elements and applications of the most important business tax issues facing the practitioner in 2013. Combining an update of recent business tax developments with other pressing tax issues, the instructor will emphasize practical applications of concepts in the day-to-day life of a tax preparer. Specific topics will be announced in April and updated throughout the year.

Learning Objectives
Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Understand the nature of internal controls and how controls can impact a successful business.
- Evaluate the impact of materiality in developing and evaluating internal controls through a review of chaos theory.
- Discuss the role of ethics and integrity and how they affect the system of controls.
- Describe the historical background on the development of controls over the past one hundred years so that one has a better understanding of where we are today and where we are going in the future regarding controls.
- Describe and apply the COSO model to solve internal control issues for organizations.
- Describe the eight ways that assets theft can occur within any organization.
- Understand the types of controls necessary to prevent and detect asset theft.
Prerequisites: Experience in tax planning.
