Mystic, Connecticut Conference Completed
September 24 - 28, 2012 Western CPE - picture of Mystic, Connecticut

If you love American history and modern comforts, Mystic offers the best of both worlds. Step back in time to a salty 18th-century New England town in the distinctive Olde Mistick Village, where you can shop, dine, and listen to live music. From there, head out across Mystic Country, where you’ll be hard-pressed to run out of great things to do.

Did you know the Freedom Trail isn’t just a walk in Boston? The Charles W. Morgan Whaling Vessel and the Greenmanville Historic District, both at the Mystic Seaport, are part of the Connecticut Freedom Trail that travels through 60 towns and 130 sites.

Once you’ve toured the grounds, cruise the harbor on Mystic’s National Historic Landmark, a 1908 coal-powered steamboat called the Sabino. You can also learn about our nation’s oldest continuous maritime service at the U.S. Coast Guard Museum on the Coast Guard Academy campus, or trace the development of the “silent service” at the Submarine Force Library and Museum.

Next, sample an unusual libation—apple wine—at B.F. Clyde’s Cider Mill, the only steam-powered Cider Mill in the country. Speaking of steam power, board a vintage passenger car pulled by a steam engine at the 1892 Essex Station for a 12-mile narrated round-trip tour of the Connecticut River Valley. For modern entertainment, laugh till your cheeks hurt when you see a live comedy show at the Mohegan Sun. You can also see some of the biggest names in entertainment at the Foxwoods Resort Casino.
