May 4 - 8, 2009 Western CPE - picture of Savannah, Georgia

Celebrate Georgia’s rich heritage and experience authentic southern hospitality in one of the most enchanting spots in the United States. The Savannah Historic District, a National Historic Landmark, is home to gorgeous old mansions and moss-draped oaks that surround the town's 21 squares. The district encompasses the original town plan laid out in 1733 by General James Oglethorpe. You can visit such notable buildings as the Owens-Thomas House built in 1818, the Beaux Arts Edmund Molyneux Mansion circa 1917, the Spencer-Woodbridge House built in 1795, and the 1853 Gothic Revival Green-Meldrim House.

Enjoy the nostalgia of a bygone era aboard the Georgia Queen paddleboat or while riding through the city in a horse-drawn carriage. You’ll find Savannah to be a shopping wonderland, with boutiques, antiques, trendy shops, and art galleries along Broughton, River, and Bull streets. Golf, sailing, and dolphin cruises are other popular daytime activities. Nightlife abounds in Savannah and includes nationally acclaimed dining, eclectic nightclubs, and sing-along piano bars.

A 20-minute drive east of town will take you to Tybee Island, a unique place where you can spend the afternoon relaxing on the beach, exploring forts and museums, watching endangered birds and other wildlife, and kayaking or biking.

After your Savannah vacation, you’ll understand why travelers from around the world adore this exciting city!
